Bernie Williams’ Status:

Bernie Williams is currently playing for the Puerto Rico World Baseball Classic team and is interested in playing on an MLB team during the 2009 season. [2009]

As reported by the Associated Press, Bernie Williams is not officially retired and will only consider playing for the New York Yankees at the Major League Level. [2007]

A Bernie Williams’ Memory:

You’ll often hear Yankees fans say that Jason Giambi officially became a Yankee on May 17, 2002, when he hit a game winning grand slam in the rain during the 14th inning. I was at that game and its the best game I’ve ever been to (poor pitching aside). The reason Jason Giambi had that opportunity was Bernie Williams game tying 9th inning solo home run. Bernie Williams homered twice that game, one from each side of the plate (the left handed one went into the upper deck).

Why Celebrate Bernie Williams?

This 2007 season marks the first to start without Bernie Williams in a New York Yankees Uniform after 16 seasons.
During his spectacular career, Bernie Williams won our love and respect on and off the ball field and now it’s time to honor him. I propose an annual Bernie Williams Day on or about every September 13th (his birthday) so we can take a moment to thank our hero for his service and the wonderful memories he’s given us over the years. I also propose the retirement of the number 51 from the New York Yankees. Please post a memory to Bernie Williams Memories with your name and talk about why you support Bernie Williams Day or a special Bernie Williams memory. These postings will be compiled into a document which will be presented to the New York Yankees Front Office in the form of a petition every September 13th until the first annual Bernie Williams Day is officially declared by the aforementioned office.

Bernie Williams Fact
